WEEK OF OCTOBER 26,2009 4TH GRADE LESSON PLANS FOR READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books. Some children have not covered any and there are no extra copies if they rip.
2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day. Also, check your child’s notebooks to see what they are doing in class or if I have written you a note.
3. Your child needs to remember to bring all of their school supplies every day.
4. Language Arts Essay: write 3 paragraphs (18 sentences) on Halloween. Remember to stay to the topic. This should be done on looseleaf. You should also include a drawing to illustrate something in your essay. This is due Weds 10/28.
TESTS:
1. Vocabulary Test on new words Friday, 10/30.
2. Spelling Test Thursday, 10/29.
3. Language Arts Test- on types of sentences. Weds. 10/28
4. Reading Test on the words from Because of Winn Dixie, Lewis and Clark, and Me, Grandfather’s Journey, The Horned Toad Prince and Letters from Yosemite. All of the words and their definitions can be found in the Reading NB. Thurs. 10/29
5. Book Test- Encyclopedia Brown- Boy Detective- Tues. 10/27

Sentences: Declarative- (statement) I went to the store.

Imperative- (commands or requests) Put the book down.
Exclamatory- (exclamations) It is freezing in here!
Subjects and Predicates – complete and simple subjects and complete
and simple predicate.
Personal Narratives: The children will be working on Chapter 1 in the Voyages Textbook- Personal Narratives (pgs. 6-43)
HOMEWORK:
Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.
MONDAY: Write each spelling word 5x each in the Reading NB. Book Test tomorrow (bring book and notes).
TUESDAY: Write a sentence for Spelling Words 1-13 in Reading NB. Remember to complete the Language Arts Essay, and study for the Language Arts Test.
WEDNESDAY: Write a sentence for spelling words 14-25 in the Reading NB. Study for the Spelling and Reading Test tomorrow.
THURSDAY: Study the 15 new vocabulary words in the Vocabulary NB for test tomorrow.
FRIDAY: Read for at least 30 minutes over the weekend. You can read any book or the book that was given to you. JUST READ!

WEEK OF OCTOBER 26,2009 3RD GRADE LESSON PLANS FOR READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books. Some children have still not covered any of their books.
2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day. Also, look through your child’s Reading and Language Arts NBs to see how they are doing on their classwork and homework.
3. Gym on Mondays. Wear gym shirt, gym pants, and sneakers.
4. Some children did not hand in their story map for The Ugly Duckling or Sam Bangs and Moonshine. This was due on Friday. This counts as a reading grade.
5. Language Arts Project- due Tues. 10/27 - The children will need to write two paragraphs (12 sentences) entitled “Halloween.” They can write about what they will be doing on Halloween and what costume they will be wearing. This should be done on looseleaf. A drawing should be attached illustrating what is written in the essay.
6. Halloween will be celebrated this Friday, October 30. The children can wear their costumes to school that day. They should bring their bookbags, since they be doing some work in the morning. I am asking that each child bring $2.00 for pizza, a bag of candy, chips, cookies, etc. to share, and something to drink for themselves. No big bottles of soda please. If you have any questions, please send me a note.
7. There is a Book Fair all of this week. The children were given flyers with the books that will be sold.
8. On Friday, there will be a Halloween cake sale hosted by the 8th grade. The children can bring money if they wish to buy something.

1. Language Arts Test on types of sentences on Weds. 10/28
2. Reading Test- Thurs. 10/29. All of the vocabulary words from the following stories will be included: Officer Buckle and Gloria, Pepita Talks Twice, Nate the Great, and Allie’s Basketball Dream. The words and definitions can be found in the Reading Notebook.
3. Spelling Test- Friday, 10/30 .Words are below.
4. Vocabulary Test on the new 15 words- Friday, 10/30. See vocabulary notebook for new words.

Statement- You are very helpful.
Question- Where is your homework?
Command- Put your pencil down.
Exclamation- Wow, you are a great reader!
A sentence
· Starts with a capital letter.
· Ends with an end mark.
· Tells a complete thought. It names someone or something and tells what the person or thing is or does.
· The words are in an order that makes sense.
HOMEWORK: Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.
