Be prepared for class everyday by bringing the necessary supplies and assignments TESTS: 1.Spelling Test tomorrow Tues. 2/17 (postponed Friday) 2.Language Arts Test Friday 2/20 on Nouns. The children will look at the sample news paper article from Coyote School News p.185 2. They will then form groups and choose a part of the newspaper that way would like to work on. They will have time during each class to plan. 3. The students will then draw a graphic organizer using the subject O.L.Q.M and will think of three things that they have experienced good or bad while going to school here. 3. Finally, the students will write a topic sentence and some important details HW: Finish writing the draft of OLQM in the Reading NB. It should be at least 3 paragraphs. THURS. 2/19 AIM:to examine features of a how-to article. LESSON:1. The students will look at the how-to article on pp. 186-187 in text book. 2. This is the format they will follow when developing the newspaper. 3. They will then get into their groups and brainstorm ideas for their articles. 4. The draft that was written last night about OLQM and ME will be corrected and the children can rewrite on looseleaf, HW: finish rewriting the the essay on OLQM and ME(reading notebook) . The students that did not complete their draft on Weds. night must do it tonight and then rewrite the final copy over the weekend. Please check your child's purple assignment book to see whether or not he/she completed the HW. This assignment counted as a homework grade and a writing grade and a zero in two assignments will bring down your child's grade significantly. 3. The class will read the story together and discuss the Think and Respond Questions.

HW: write a sentence for words 1-10 in Reading Notebook. Remember to underline the spelling word in each sentence.

Thurs. 2/19

AIM: to decode words with consonants /s/c and /j/dge and to classify word relationships.

LESSON:1. The children will review the sounds of /s/ and /j/.

2. They will write down the rules for each sound in their Reading NB .

3. The children will then review word relationships: synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and multiple meaning words.

Lesson: The children will review the meanings of synonym, antonym, and homophone and try to group words in to the correct category. The children will work on decoding unfamiliar words using spelling patterns. Making predictions will be introduced as a new comprehension strategy. HW: see purple book Tues. 2/10/09 Aim: to read words to which the ending -ed has been added and to determine author's purpose for writing a selection. Lesson: The children will work on adding the ending /ed/ to root words to show that the action has happened in the past. Sometimes the spelling will change when adding the ending /ed/. These rules will be copied into the Reading NB. Author's Purpose will be discussed . Authors will sometimes have more than one purpose for writing a story or article.
