Week of November 1, 2010

Reminders:

As stated on last week's blog, these are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork. Your child will lose points if they do not follow the directions stated below.

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil will not be accepted unless it is specified. Sloppy and crossed out work will not be accepted.

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads are unacceptable).

C. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a note from a parent explaining why it is not complete. This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not that you were too tired or that you had too much other HW).

D. **Any 7th or 8th grade students that attend Title 1 Math or Reading during Social Studies, must hand in all homework assignments and get notes from another classmate, so they do not fall behind in their notes.

E. Test papers will be sent home this week for you to look over and sign. Please look for them in your child’s HW folder.

F. Friday, 11/5 – 12:00 dismissal due to a Faculty Meeting

First Quarter Word Wall Test – Thursday, 11/4

The children will need to study all the words in their Vocabulary Notebooks (weekly words given by each teacher for the last seven weeks). There are 140 words in all. If your child is missing words, please have them copy them from a friend, so they will be able to study. No new words will be given this week.

Process Paper


A process paper is a description of no more than 500 words explaining how you conducted your research and created and developed your entry. You must conclude your description with an explanation of the relationship of your topic to the contest theme. A title page is required as the first page of written material in every category. Your title page must include only the title of your entry, your name(s) and the contest division and category in which you are entered. Do not include your age, grade or school name. The first section should explain how you chose your topic. The second section should explain how you conducted your research. The third section should explain how you selected your presentation category and created your project. The fourth section should explain how your project relates to the NHD theme.

E. New books were distributed last week. Please make sure that your child reads a chapter a day and more on the weekend. It is also important that your child takes notes as he/she is reading the book. Printing notes or summaries from the internet defeats the purpose of reading a book to improve vocabulary, comprehension, and imagination. Plus reading summaries from the internet and not reading the book itself will not help your child to pass the test. If the book gets lost or damaged, your child will be responsible to replace it or pay to replace it.

F. Test papers will be sent home this week for you to look over and sign. Please look for them in your child’s HW folder.

G. Friday, 10/29 is a regular school day. The children should wear their uniforms and bring all of their work. No costumes =-{

E. Book Tests will be given this week on your child’s assigned book. Please check the date below for the correct date. Your child will be allowed to use their notes during the test. The book must be returned on the day of the test. A new book will not be given to your child until the previous one is returned. If the book gets lost or damaged, your child is responsible to replace it or pay to replace it.

F. Some students have still not returned test papers sent home last week to be

signed. If they are not returned with a signature by Wednesday, I will replace the grade with a zero. Please check the blue assignment book for a note if your child did not return tests to me. More tests will be sent home this week to sign. Please look for them in the HW folder.
