Week of December 19, 2011

Reminders:

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil is not allowed.

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable.

C. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a note from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW.
This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not
because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW).

D. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted.

E. Each child has a book to read. He/she should take notes while reading the book (write them on loose-leaf or index cards). A test will be given every week on the chapters assigned to be read for that week. Your child will be allowed to use both notes and the book for the test. The book must be returned on the day of the test. A new book will not be given to your child until the previous one is returned. If the book gets lost or damaged, your child must replace it!

F. Remember to cover the Reading Skills Practice, Reading Practice Book, and Social Studies Workbook.

NEW REMINDERS:

G. Mon, 12/19: Please send in a large, strong plastic shopping bag(s), so your child can pack up the books he/she will be leaving in school during the vacation.

H. Tues, 12/20: 5th Grade Christmas Show. Dismissal is at 12:00. Students must be back at school by 4:15. Please make sure they have their costumes. All parents must go to the lunchroom to get a seat. Parents cannot accompany their children to the classroom. The show starts promptly at 5:00. Tickets are on sale in the Tuition Office for $5.00. If you want to buy at the door on Tuesday night, they will be $7.00, so by ahead of time.  The children will return to the classroom after their performance and stay there until the show is over. An announcement will be made as to where to pick them up.

I. The fifth grade Christmas Party will be Weds, 12/21 at 10:00, after Lessons and Carols. The children all volunteered to bring in refreshments for the party. Please look in the HW Assignment if they don’t remember. They can wear dress clothes for the party. No jeans or sneakers. They will be singing at Lessons and Carols (church 9:00- all parents are welcome to attend) and should look nice! Dismissal on Weds. is 12:00. There is no ASP. The children can also leave their bookbags home on Weds.

J. Starting in January, the students will be given 10 vocabulary words per week, rather than 20. They will have to copy the words and definitions on Monday for Homework and it will be checked on Tuesday. If your child does not have internet access at home, he/she will be able to stay in the Afterschool Program on Mondays from 3:00-3:30 in order to copy the words into the Vocabulary NBs.

Start working on the NHD projects over the Christmas break. This project is extensive and recovers a lot of research using both primary and secondary sources. The topics have already been chosen, so the next step is to do the research, and design your presentation method. All projects will be due on Thurs, February 2nd. No extensions will be given! If you need to print material, figure out how and where to do it prior to that date. Do not wait until the last minute. This project will account for a large part of the third quarter grade, so put effort into your work.

NEW REMINDERS:
G. All money for Christmas costumes was due today. Costumes will be sent home today with those children who have paid. Please hang the costumes up somewhere, so that the costumes won’t wrinkle. Please keep the letter sent home last week as reference. The show is next Tuesday, 12/20 at 5:00PM. Tickets are on sale today in the Tuition Room.
H. Remember the gloves, scarfs, socks, and hats drive for homeless dinner sponsored by the parish of OLQM. Please be as generous as possible. The last day to donate is Friday, 12/16.
