WEEK OF MARCH 23- 27,2009 3RD GRADE

REMINDERS: 1.Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. 2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. 3. Our class will be doing a spring show. The date is next Mon., 3/30 at 5:00 PM. A letter was sent home concerning costumes. Some students did not return the paper signed so I am removing them from the show, because I am assuming you are not interested in having them play a part. If you do want your child to participate, please send me a note tomorrow or sign the letter concerning costumes handed out last week. Boy and girl singers can either wear a navy blue, white, or pink polo shirt, rather than just pink. I know people were having problems finding pink. The pants must be khaki. Any shoes are fine. The shirt should have short sleeves. The children will need to be here next Monday at 4:15. Dismissal will be at 11:30. 4. Please bring in a box of Kleenex if you haven’t already done so . 5. The children will be having their Open Book Test Tues., 3/24. They should read 30 minutes each day. Notes on the book should be kept in the Reading Notebook. 6. A new book will be given out on Weds. 3/25 7. Please send in your child's height and weight. This was due at the beginning of the month. It must be added to your child's record card in order to update it. 8. Tests papers will be distributed by Mr. Woods on Tuesday. Please review the tests , sign, and return on Wednesday. These tests must be filed in your child's test folder. TESTS: Open Book Test on Ramona and Her Father or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tues, 3/24. SPELLING TEST on Friday 3/27 on the words from p. 38 in the spelling book VOCABULARY: THE STORY JULIAN TELLS cartwheel, seriously, mustache, fastened, beyond, collection SPELLING WORDS: crown, proud, however, count, crowded, around, south, loud, house, shouted, howl, growl, bounce, fountain, sound CHALLENGE WORDS: special, trust, companion, trained, behave READING MONDAY: MARCH 23 AIM: To review Theme 3 and introduce the first story LESSON: 1. The class will do a listening comprehension activity 2. The class will answer the question of the day 3. The children will work on the comprehension skill of sequencing. HW: Write each spelling word 5x each in Reading NB. The words are on p. 39 of the spelling book. Study for Book Test. TUESDAY: MARCH 24 AIM: To complete an Open Book Test LESSON: 1. The children will take an open book test on Ramona and Her Father or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 2. The children will write the new vocabulary for The Stories Julian Tells in their Reading NB HW: write a sentence for spelling words 1-10 in the Reading NB. Underline each spelling word WEDNESDAY: MARCH 25 NO CLASS DUE TO ITBS TESTING HW: Write a sentence for spelling words 11-20 in the Reading NB. Underline the spelling word in each sentence. THURSDAY: MARCH 26 AIM: To read the story of Julian together LESSON:1. The children will answer the question of the day 2. We will read the story together and discuss the Think and Respond Questions at the end of the selection. 3. We will practice the comprehension skill of following directions. HW: See purple assignment book and study for spelling test. FRIDAY: MARCH 27 AIM: To decode and understand words with prefixes un- and re- LESSON: 1. We will review the vocabulary words. 2. The children will take a spelling test 3. We will review root words and prefixes. HW: Start reading new book and making notes. Notes were started in the back of the Reading NB.
