WEEK OF APRIL 27, 2009 3RD GRADE

REMINDERS: 1.Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. 2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. 3. We are in great need of tissue for the classroom. Please send in a box. 4. A new book was given out on Friday 4/24. Your child should read a few chapters every night and more on the weekend. The notes for the book will be started in the back of the Reading Notebook. Please make sure that your child reads the book because many of the children are lowering their Reading grade because of not doing well on the book tests. The test for this book will be May 21. c TESTS: SPELLING TEST on Friday 5/8 on the words from p. 47 in the spelling book. LANGUAGE ARTS TEST on Thurs, 5/7. Review pp. 97-123 in the Language Handbook. VOCABULARY: THE TALENT SHOW gym, perform, prefer, roam, recite, enjoying, billions SPELLING WORDS: THE TALENT SHOW song, law, because, soft, dawn, crawl, lost, taught, long, pause, frost, lawn, hawk, laundry, author CHALLENGE WORDS: sausage, cafeteria, mustard, tablecloth, service READING MONDAY: April 27 AIM: To update Reading Vocabulary notebooks LESSON: The children will write new vocabulary words in their notebooks. The children will also start notes for the new book they are reading. HW: see assignment book TUESDAY: APRIL 28 AIM: To identify chronological order in stories LESSON: 1. The class will do order events in a typical school day. 2. The class will sequence events in The Stories Julian Tells. 3. The children will work on the comprehension skill of reading ahead, which helps readers to understand a character, plot, or story better. 4. The children will review vocabulary and spelling words. HW: See assignment book. WEDNESDAY: APRIL 29 AIM: To complete the Speaking section of the NYSESLAT Test. HW: See purple assignment book THURSDAY: APRIL 30 AIM: To complete a Story Map of the Stories Julian Tells LESSON: 1. We will review the vocabulary words and spelling words. 2. The children will reread the Stories Julian Tells. 3. We will then complete a Story Map about the story HW: Review new vocabulary words and spelling words FRIDAY: MAY 1 NO CLASS DUE TO FACULTY CONFERENCE DAY LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, APRIL 27 AIM: To decode and understand words with prefixes un- and re- LESSON: 1. The children will review the prefixes /un/ and /re/. 2. The children will use the context to determine the meaning of words that have more than one meaning (multiple meaning words). HW: see Assignment Book TUESDAY, APRIL 28 AIM: To review how to create an advertisement LESSON: The children will discuss how to put together an advertisement. The children will also review nouns (pp. 97-111 in Lang. Handbook) HW: Do numbers 1-5 on p.110 and complete the chart (1-5) on p. 111 in the Lang. Handbook. Do all work in the LA notebook. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29 continue NYSESLAT testing LESSON: The children will review abbreviations and pronouns pp. 112- 117 in Language Handbook HW: Do p. 117 1-15 in Lang. Arts notebook. Set up your notebook the same way as last night when completing your homework.
