Week of October 3, 2011

Reminders:

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil is not allowed.

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of

paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is

unacceptable.

C. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a note

from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW.

This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not

because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW).

D. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible

will not be accepted.

E. Each child has a book to read. He/she should take notes while reading the book (write them on loose-leaf or index cards). A test will be given every week on the chapters assigned to be read for that week. Your child will be allowed to use both notes and the book for the test. The book must be returned on the day of the test. A new book will not be given to your child until the previous one is returned. If the book gets lost or damaged, your child must replace it!

F. Remember to cover the Reading Skills Practice, Reading Practice Book, and Social Studies Workbook.

*G. Mass on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9:00 for St. Francis of Assisi. Your child may bring their animals to school to be blessed. All cats and dogs must be brought by an adult to the church and taken home after Mass. The Mass will be hosted by the students of the 5th Grade. All Parents are welcome to attend.

*H. Fifth Grade students will wear gym uniforms on Monday and Friday of this week!

Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

For (8-10) Draw the chart and complete; and pg. 21 (1-7) Write the sentence and number them to show the order in which things happened in Alvin Ailey’s life. For (8-10) Draw the web and complete with words that could be used to describe Alvin Ailey. Complete the homework on looseleaf. Homework done in pencil or ripped out of a notebook will not be accepted. Remember to have a correct heading on your paper and to skip lines.

Map of the Month- a new map will be distributed today. It will be due on Tues. 11/1. Remember to read the instructions carefully and to complete all parts. Make sure your name is on the map, or points will be deducted from your grade!

Due Tuesday, 10/4- Choose a famous Hispanic American and research his/her life. Make sure to include background information and what accomplishments made this person famous. The project can be done as a power point, poster board, or 2 paged typed paper, double-spaced. The project will then be presented to the class, so you will be given two grades for this assignment.

Due Friday, 10/7- Complete the Checkup Questions on pg. 29 in the textbook. Restate the questions in the answers. Complete on looseleaf and make sure you have a heading on your paper. Skip a line between each question.
