Reminders:

A. ALL WORK MUST BE DONE IN BLUE OR BLACK PEN. NO OTHER COLOR WILL BE ACCEPTED. WORK DONE IN PENCIL WILL ALSO NOT BE ACCEPTED. ONLY ONE OR THE OTHER; NOT A MIXTURE OF BOTH.

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads are unacceptable).

C. The students are given 20 vocabulary words per week. They will have to copy the words and definitions on Monday for Homework and it will be checked on Tuesday by the Homeroom Teacher. If your child does not have internet access at home, he/she will be able to stay in the Afterschool Program on Mondays from 3:00-3:30 in order to copy the words into the Vocabulary NBs.

D. Progress Reports will be sent home on Friday, May11.

1. Monday- In the front of your Reading Notebook, define the following words using the glossary in the back of the book. This work can be started in class and finished for homework. It is up to you to get as much done as possible during class, so there is not too much to complete for homework.

3. Wednesday- Read the story City Birds.

Complete page. 193 1-10 (Practice Book) on looseleaf. Write questions and answers. Remember to put a complete heading on the looseleaf and the name of the book and page numbers.

4. Thursday- Practice Book pg. 194 (1-6 Exercise A) write question and answer. Exercise B write a paragraph of at least 6 sentences.

5. Friday- Practice Book pg. 196 Exercise A (1-6). On the back of the looseleaf complete pg. 199 Exercise A (1-7).

Make sure you do each day’s assignment on a separate piece of looseleaf. There should be a complete heading on each sheet of looseleaf, the name of the book, and the page numbers. Do not staple the assignments together. Hand in each day’s assignment separately.

You can check your grades on the SIS system for the work that I have checked so far. Many people have not handed in assignments, and have a failing grade for Reading. 5. Friday- Word Study Book- complete pg. 59 (1-16) question and answer) and pg. 163 (1-9). 1-6 write the list of words in alphabetical order, and 7,8,9 write the list of words in the correct alphabetical order. DO NOT NUMBER THE WORDS.

Check your Social Studies notebooks and make certain that all vocabulary words for Chapters 8 and 9 are in there. You will have to go through Chapter 10 and write the vocabulary in your notebook. You already have done it on looseleaf. The pages of the vocabulary for Chapter 10 are: 334, 339, 343, and 351. There should be 27 vocabulary words in Chapter 10.

These will be the vocabulary words used for the Final Exam. The definitions should be taken from the glossary of your Social Studies textbook.

Tuesday, 5/8

Textbook p.357 Applying Knowledge –question 3 on LL.

Copy the words and definitions on pgs. 358 and 362 into your SS notebook. Remember to look up words in the glossary in the back of your book.

Wednesday, 5/9

Read pgs. 358-362 and answer questions 1-4 on LL.

Read pgs. 363- 369 and answer questions 1-4 on pg. 369. Complete on LL.

Friday, 5/11

Page 369 in the textbook. Answer Critical Thinking question 5 on looseleaf.

As I was correcting the Chapter 10 definitions that you handed in, I noticed some of you did not write the definitions from the glossary. You must use those definitions, because they are the ones I will be using for the final exam.

Tuesday, 5/8

Read pages 356-359 in the textbook. On looseleaf, answer questions 1, 2, 3, &4. Skip a line between each question and restate.

Wednesday, 5/9

Textbook pg. 359 Thinking Critically, question 5 on looseleaf. There should be 5 paragraphs to answer this question: an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Thursday, 5/10

1. Read in the Text pgs. 361-369. Answer the questions about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt on page 369 (1-4 on LL).

2. Read pages 370-377 about Mary McLeod Bethune. On LL answer questions 1-3 (pg. 377) about the life and work of this educator and presidential advisor.

Friday, 5/11

Read about Amelia Earhart on pages 378-386 in the textbook. Answer questions 1-4on pg. 386 about this aviation pioneer. Complete on looseleaf.
