Reminders:


 1. These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork:
       A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

       B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of
paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable.
   
      C. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a note
           from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW.
           This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home or you were sick.

      D. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted. 
           Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

2. Please bring back all test folders (empty) that were sent home last week.

3. February Calendars will be sent home this week. Please read it carefully.

We are reading the book Walk Two Moons.
Read Chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18. Highlight words that are unfamiliar.

Write the Vocabulary words and definitions in the Reading Vocabulary NB. Remember to write the date, aim, and skip a line between each definition. Due Thursday, 2/7.

Reading Vocabulary for Unit 3 Week 4

Answer the following response questions (Questions are from Chapter 13- 18) by Friday, 2/8.
1. Why do you think Phoebe tells Sal that she does not think she and her dad should go to Margaret’s?
2. Explain what happened to Gram when she, Gramps, and Sal were swimming and playing in the Mississippi River. Who helped out? Give details.
3. Describe Sal’s dad. What were his likes and dislikes? How did his parents feel about him? How did Sal feel about him? How did Sal’s mom feel about him?
4. Explain why Sal’s mom said she had to leave? Did she say where she was going or if she was coming back?
Why did the Sal’s dad say that they had to move?

4. What did Dani want to say to Papa? Why didn’t she tell him how she felt?

3. Anne writes, “It is extremely important to be able to write in code” (October 1, 1942). Why was writing in code so important for her?
 4. What does Anne report about Jews in Holland who were not able to go into hiding? What does she mean when she says Hitler took away her “nationality” (October 9, 1942)?

1. Discuss what recruits needed to learn to become soldiers (use details from the text).
2. Why did the Confederate army seem more and disciplined compared to the Union army?
3. Discuss the “chess match” that common soldiers did not realize that their commanders engaged. What were the plans of the Union Commanders? The Confederates?
4. What was the purpose of the “drummer boys”? What was the drum beats used for? What were some of the other jobs did the drummers do? Why would the Civil War be the last war that drummers would be used?
