Week of December 15, 2014

Reminders:

These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork: 

A. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable).    
      
B. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

C. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted.

D. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a not from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW. This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW). 

E. Please cover the New York Progress book. A clear plastic cover is suggested.

F. Gym uniforms must be worn on Thursdays for gym.

H. Please bring in a large plastic bag (with your name on it) to store books that won’t be going home over the Christmas Break. Whatever does not fit in the bag must go home. We will be packing up the books on Thursday, so please let tour child know what books you would like them to bring home.

I. Friday, 12/19:
·       Lessons and Carols at 8:30 in the church. Parents are all welcome to attend. The children may wear dress clothes that are red, green, white, and boys may wear black pants.
·       Remember to bring your Secret Santa gift. Girls buy for girls and boys buy for boys. Price about $15. If you will not be participating, please let me know by Tuesday.
·       Bring $4 for pizza and whatever you volunteered to bring in to share with the class.
·       If you will not be here on Friday, please let me know by Tuesday.
Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

Grade 5 is reading Who was Dr. Seuss? by Janet Paschal for Unit 3. You should finish up to Chapter 5 by Friday, 12/19. Finish reading the book over the Christmas Vacation. You should also be reading a book for enjoyment everyday for at least 20-30 minutes per day.

Grade 5 Reading Questions

Project for Unit 2: PowerPoint Presentation or Prezi on the author, poet, or illustrator of your choice. The presentation should be 7-10 slides. The slides should only have one line of text and a picture (map, graph, image). Your information should be on an index card and explained by you to the class. The presentation should include a bibliography all of the books or websites that you used to find your information. One video of 3 minutes or less can be included, but not required. If you have questions, please ask before it is due. There will be No Extensions! The presentation is due on Monday, December 15. You may work alone or with a partner.

Grade 6 is reading Escape from Saigon: How a Vietnam War Orphan Became an American Boy by Andrea Warren for Unit 3. Please read the Chapters 4 and 5 by Thursday, 12/18. Finish the rest of the book over the Christmas Vacation. You should also be reading a book for enjoyment everyday for at least 20-30 minutes per day.

Project for Unit 2: Write a 3-page paper on the topic that you chose from Chapters 18, 19, or 20. The paper should include the following:

a. Must be typed- 12 font, New Times Roman, double spaced
b. Must include a Cover Page- with a Title (the name of whom you are writing about), a picture of the person, and at the bottom your name, date, and class.
c. A bibliography that includes all of the books or websites that you used to find your information.

The cover page and bibliography are two separate pages and are not included with the two pages of research. There should be 5 pages in total. If you have questions, please ask before the paper is due. There will be No Extensions! The paper is due on Monday, December 15. If it is not printed out, it is not done !!!!!!!!!
