Week of November 7, 2016

Reminders:

These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork: 
       
A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads are unacceptable).
   
C. Homework must be handed in on the day due unless I receive a note from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW. This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW). 

D. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted.

E. Gym uniforms must be worn by 5th graders on Wednesdays for gym.

F. Extended Day classes -The fifth grade will attend extended day class for Math on Tuesday with Mr. Placido and on Wednesday for ELA with Ms. Serewko. The classes will begin at 3:00 and finish at 5:00.

G. Please check the blog daily for updated homework assignments or notifications. Make sure that you read Mr. Woods blog for other important announcements.

H. Schedule for Module I Exams

Tuesday, 11/8- ELA and Social Studies
Wednesday, 11/9- Math and Science
Thursday, 11/10- Religion and Reading

J. No school Friday, 11/11 due to Veteran’s Day.

K. A MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Student Goal Setting Worksheet will be sent home this Thursday with the scores your child attained on the tests administered two weeks ago. Some children may also receive an AIS (Academic Intervention Services) sheet attached to the report. Both need to be signed by the parent.
The areas in green will indicate areas of strength for your child.
The areas in yellow are or maybe an academic area of concern.
The report also lists your child's Lexile Range which is a measure of where your child reads presently. 

L.Please sign both the MAP Report and the AIS form and send them back to school on Monday, 11/14.

M. In November OLQM is having it's annual canned food drive for St. Patrick's Nursing Facility in the Bronx. Please send in as many cans as possible.

Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

HOMEWORK: For the Week of November 7- Module 1 Exam Week
Homework for Grade 5:

Review for Module Exam on Thursday:
1. Esperanza’s Rising
2. Vocabulary Words written on index cards (also written in the Reading notebook).

Write all new vocabulary on index cards. The word should be written on the front of the card in large print. Module 2 should also be written on the bottom right corner on the front of the card. The definition should be written on the back of the card. All cards must be kept in a Ziploc bag. Words will not be accepted if they are not in a bag!

Index Cards will be collected every Monday. Please Module 1 index cards in a safe place, so you will have them for the Midterm Exam.
A new Ziploc bag is needed for Module 2 words!

Achieve 3000 is assigned each week to help improve the children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills. The children should complete any assignments (activities or thought questions) that are not completed during class. They can also get extra review by completing the stretch activities for the story that they have worked on in class. The Activity and Thought Question must be completed every week because they are counted as a grade!

Check your folder each night for papers to complete at home.
