WEEK OF OCTOBER 19,2009 4TH GRADE LESSON PLANS FOR READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books. Some children have not covered any and there are no extra copies if they rip.

2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day. Also, check your child’s notebooks to see what they are doing in class or if I have written you a note.

3. Your child needs to remember to bring all of their school supplies every day. If you have not sent in tissues yet, please do so.

4. A new book was distributed on Friday (Encyclopedia Brown- Boy Detective). Some children are not reading the books nor taking notes. The date of the book test will be decided in a few weeks. The notes have already been started in the back of the Reading NB. Test will be Tues. 10/27. (notes may be used- not the book).

5. Please sign and review the tests that will be handed out by Mr. Woods this
week. 

6. Language Arts Essay: write 3 paragraphs (18 sentences) on Halloween. Remember to stay to the topic. This should be done on looseleaf. You should also include a drawing to illustrate something in your essay. This is due Weds. 10/28.

TESTS: 
1. Vocabulary Test on all words (75 words) in the Vocabulary NB Friday, 10/23.

2. Spelling Test Thursday, 10/29

3. Language Arts Test- on types of sentences. Weds. 10/28

4. Reading Test on the words from Because of Winn Dixie, Lewis and Clark, and Me, Grandfather’s Journey, and the Horned Toad Prince. All of the words and their definitions can be found in the Reading NB. Thurs. 10/29

5. Book Test- Encyclopedia Brown- Boy Detective- Tuesday, 10/27.


VOCABULARY:
1. Study all the words given so far. Test on Friday. Check Vocabulary NB.

2. Reading Vocabulary Words from The Horned Toad Prince:
corral, frontier, rodeo, bargain, favor, lassoed, offended, prairie, riverbed, shrieked, sassy, suspiciously, twang.  Check the Reading NB for these words.


SPELLING: Words with Long E

LANGUAGE ARTS: We will be working on the following- Voyages Textbook pgs. 314-323

Sentences: Declarative- (statement) I went to the store.
                  Interrogative- (question) Can you read quickly?
                  Imperative- (commands or requests) Put the book down.
                  Exclamatory- (exclamations) It is freezing in here!


Subjects and Predicates- Complete Subjects and Complete Predicates. 
                                         Simple Subjects and Simple Predicates


Personal Narratives: The children will be working on Chapter 1 in the Voyages Textbook- Personal Narratives (pgs. 6-43)


 HOMEWORK:
Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.
MONDAY: Voyages Textbook- pg. 319 Exercise 1 1-10 (do in Language Arts NB.

TUESDAY: work on Language Arts Essay

WEDNESDAY: Work on Language Arts Essay

THURSDAY: Study all vocabulary words in the Vocabulary NB for test tomorrow.

FRIDAY: Read for at least 30 minutes over the weekend. You can read any book or the book that was given to you.  JUST READ!

*Remember to work on your Halloween essay, and study for your Reading and Language Arts Test, and make notes for the Book Test on Tues. .
