WEEK OF OCTOBER 5,2009 3RD GRADE LESSON PLANS FOR READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books. Some children have still not covered any of their books.
2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day. Also, look through your child’s Reading and Language Arts NBs to see how they are doing on their classwork and homework.
3. Your child needs to remember to bring all of their school supplies every day. If you have not sent in a box of tissues, a roll of paper towels, Lysol disinfectant wipes or Lysol spray. These materials were due over a month ago.
4. Gym on Mondays. Wear gym shirt, gym pants, and sneakers
5. Please sign the permission slip that is in the Homework Folder. This is just a general permission slip in case we go on any walking trips in the neighborhood.
6. Please read the October calendar carefully so that you stay updated about important events.
7. Please sign the test papers that will be given out by Mr. Woods on Thursday. Review them with your child and return on Tuesday, 10/13. These tests must be kept on file in your child's test folder in school.
8. ITBS Testing starts the Week of Oct.12. Please make sure your child has sharpened #2 pencils with erasers each day.

VOCABULARY:
1. 5 words for the week: will be written in the Vocabulary NB.  Test Friday, 10/9
    mighty- strong
    dangle- to swing something
    pamphlet- booklet
    preserve- to save something
    anxious- worried, nervous

2. Reading Vocabulary Words from Nate the Great: San Francisco Detective-
     detective, specific, positive, case, returned, definitely, assistant
    Check the Reading NB for these words and their definitions.

SPELLING: Test Friday 10/16
  easy, grade, meet, late, seat, saved, pail, these, reach, name, raise, leave, gain, theme,
  scream
  Challenge Words: 
  mystery, solve, search, found, investigate

LANGUAGE ARTS: We will be working on writing descriptive paragraphs and personal narratives (Language Handbook pgs. 14-17, 58-60).

We are also reviewing the different types of sentences: Language Handbook pgs. 79-87

Statement- You are very helpful.
Question- Where is your homework?
Command- Put your pencil down.
Exclamation- Wow, you are a great reader!

A sentence
·        Starts with a capital letter.
·        Ends with an end mark.
·        Tells a complete thought. It names someone or something and tells what the person or thing is or does.
·        The words are in an order that makes sense.

HOMEWORK: Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.

MONDAY: Phonics- pgs. 61, 62, 63

TUESDAY: Reading Practice Book- pgs. 27, 32

WEDNESDAY: Language Arts Handbook- pg. 85 #s 6-10. Do in Language Arts NB.


THURSDAY: Study 15 vocabulary words in the Vocabulary NB for test tomorrow. 


FRIDAY: Read for at least 30 minutes over the weekend. You can read any book or magazine that you like.        JUST READ!
