Weekly Reminders:
GRADE 4-HOMEROOM

A. Gym uniforms must be worn by 4th graders on Wednesdays for gym unless students are told differently.

B. Hispanic Heritage Presentations for Grades 3-8 on Wednesday @9:00AM. All parents are invited.

C. Thursday, October 18, Progress Reports will be sent home. Please sign the Progress Report and have your child return it on Friday, Oct. 19.

D. Make sure to read Mr. Woods blog for other important information.

Unit 1 The Land and Early People/ Chapter 2: Native Americans

Tuesday,10/16: Define each word below in your Social Studies Vocabulary NB. Please use the glossary in the back of the SS text and write the entire definition. If it isn’t in the book, you can search for it online. Just make sure the definition goes with what we are discussing. Due Thursday, 10/18

Wednesday,10/17: Read pages 62-67 in the Social Studies textbook. On loose-leaf, answer the following questions. You may restate the question in the answer. Due Friday, 10/19

Questions:
1. How were men’s jobs and women’s jobs divided?
2. What was the Iroquois League?
3. What two purposes did wampum serve?
4. Why was living near the Atlantic Ocean important for the Algonquian peoples?
5. Who were Hiawatha and Deganawida? What did they do together?

Grade 5 Lesson Plans for Social Studies

The 6th grade will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. The publisher is Disney Press and the publication date is 3/20/2007.
The children can buy or order the book themselves or I can order it for them. The book with tax is $8.50. If you would like me to order the book for you, please have the money in buy Friday, 10/19. We will begin reading the book on Monday, October 29.

ELA/Reading Homework for Grade 6
This week we will continue to discuss memoirs and poetry. We will also be discussing personal and nonfiction narratives and continue to review types of nouns.

My Perspectives (Pearson)- Please review (in your textbook or online at Pearson Realize) the story, vocabulary, and concepts (word study and conventions) that we are working on in class.

Tuesday 10/16- Write a draft of your personal narrative in your NB. Remember to use the characteristics of personal narratives that we listed in your notebook. Due on Thursday, 10/18

Wednesday 10/10 Voyages Practice Book- page 12 #s 1-22 (odd numbers only). Please complete in your notebook with the date, name of the book and page, and the AimDue on Friday, 10/19.
