Week of May 2, 2011

Reminders:

As stated on last week's blog, these are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork. Your child will lose points if they do not follow the directions stated below.

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) Pencil will not be accepted unless it is specified. Sloppy and crossed out work will not be accepted. All work that is handed in must be done on looseleaf, or 10pts. will be deducted from the grade.

B. **Any 7th or 8th grade students that attend Title 1 Math or Reading during Reading or Social Studies, must hand in all homework assignments and get notes from another classmate, so they do not fall behind in their notes. The same goes for students who are absent. A grade of zero will be entered until assignments are handed in.

C. All electronic devices are collected from each student upon entering the classroom and are returned before dismissal each day! See the school blog for further information.

D. The NYS ELA Test will be administered to students in the 6thand 8th grades on Weds. and Thurs. of this week. Please continue to review past exams.

E. Friday, May 6 there will be a 12:00 dismissal due to a Faculty Meeting.

The Boxcar Children will be handed out on Weds. Read Chapters 1, 2, & 3 by Weds, 5/11

Reading- read the story The Dolphins led Me Home in the Reading Textbook.

Reading Practice Book- complete the Story Map on pg. 166 Part A. Then complete Part B on the back of the Story Map. Only write one paragraph using the information from your Story Map.

Complete on LL- due Thursday, 5/5

D. Tomorrow, 4/18 we will be having a small Easter Party in the afternoon. The children should bring $3.00 for pizza and something to drink. They can also bring whatever else they would like to share with the class. They can wear nice clothes (no jeans), because we will be attending the Stations of the Cross at 10:30. Each child must bring their bookbags, because there will be classes in the morning. There will be a 3:00 dismissal.

E. Please remember to send in a large bag tomorrow, so that your child can pack the books they will be leaving in school over the vacation. The desks and floors will be cleaned and I do not want the books to get wet or lost. Also, make a list of the books that you would like your child to bring home over the vacation, so that they can pack them in their bookbag.

HOMEWORK:

5th Grade- Finish reading Everyone Else’s Parents Said Yes. There will be a Book Test on Weds, 5/4.

6th Grade- Read pgs. 3-37 in The Fighting Ground. There will be a Quiz on Weds. 5/4. Please go to the following link to download past ELA exams to review. It is important to download all three books.
