Week of March 28,2011

Reminders:

As stated on last week's blog, these are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork. Your child will lose points if they do not follow the directions stated below.

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) Pencil will not be accepted unless it is specified. Sloppy and crossed out work will not be accepted. All work that is handed in must be done on looseleaf, or 10pts. will be deducted from the grade.

B. **Any 7th or 8th grade students that attend Title 1 Math or Reading during Reading or Social Studies, must hand in all homework assignments and get notes from another classmate, so they do not fall behind in their notes. The same goes for students who are absent. A grade of zero will be entered until assignments are handed in.

C. All electronic devices are collected from each student upon entering the classroom and are returned before dismissal each day! See the school blog for further information.

D. We are collecting pencils and notebooks for the mission in DR.

E. 12:00 Dismissal on Friday, 4/1 due to a Faculty Meeting.

Vocabulary Words for the Week of March 28: Test Friday, 4/1 . The test will include the words from last week and this week.

1. analogy the relationship that one thing has to another (kitten is to cat as puppy is to dog)

2. prefix a word part that is added at the beginning of a base word or root to change the word’s meaning or to form a new word (unwrap)

3. root a word part to which a prefix or suffix may be added to form a new word (reduce)

4. suffix a word part that is added at the end of a base word or root to change the word’s meaning or the way it is used (helpful)

5. syllable a word or word part with a single vowel sound (ba/by= 2 syllables)

Women in History Project- Write about a woman that has influenced history in some way. Your report should be divided into two parts: 1st Part-Background information (name, date, and place of birth, childhood, where she grew up, education, date of death-if the person has already died- (35 pts.)

2nd Part- Why is this woman considered important? What impact has she made in history? Why did you choose her? (35 pts.)

Your report should be 500 words and can be written or LL or typed. It can include pictures, but doesn’t have to. (extra credit) Font is Times New Roman (12) double-spaced. Grammar, spelling, and neatness counts. (10pts.) Please add a reference page to the back of your report (the sources you used for your information). (10pts.)

This will be presented to the class- (10pts.)

You must let me know the woman you choose before/by Thursday, so I can approve it before you start your project.

If you type your paper, it must be printed out before Monday, 3/14. No one will be allowed to print on Monday morning‼‼! It also cannot be copied from any article or book (I will check). Everything must be put into your own words. If you have any questions, ASK ME BEFORE THE DUE DATE‼! If you know that you do not have access to a printer, write it neatly on looseleaf and do not write on the back of the looseleaf.
