Summer 2020 Reading for Grades 6, 7, and 8



SUMMER 2020 READING ASSIGNMENTS FOR GRADES 6,7,8 (GRADES FOR SEPTEMBER)


Grade 6 (in September):

The 6th grade will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The publisher is Disney-Hyperion and the publication date is 2006.

The children should read a minimum of two Chapters per week. That means they should be finished at least up to Chapter 18 when school starts. They are welcomed to read more if they wish to. They can use a yellow highlighter to mark important information or characters, settings, etc. They can also write down information in any type of notebook if they want to.

I will update the blog as more information becomes available. I will also start a google classroom as soon as I get each child’s email. You can email me at mstoscano@olqmnyc.org if you have any questions.



Grade 7 (in September):

The 7th grade will continue reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The publisher is Disney-Hyperion and the publication date is 2006.

The children should continue reading from where they stopped in June. That means they should be finished the whole book when school starts. They should read at least two chapters per week. They are welcomed to read more if they wish to. They can use a yellow highlighter to mark important information or characters, settings, etc. They can also write down information in any type of notebook if they want to.

Grade 8 (in September):

The 8th grade will finish reading The Outsiders. There were about two chapters left in the book when school ended in June.

The new book they should purchase is The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Vintage Books, 1984.

They should read the introduction first. Then they should read about twenty-five pages per week. They are welcomed to read more if they wish to. They can use a yellow highlighter to mark important information or characters, settings, etc. They can also write down information in any type of notebook if they want to.

REMINDERS:

1. All textbooks must be returned to the school office before June 30, 2020.

2. If any parent would like to have a phone or zoom conference with me, please email me at mstoscano@olqmnyc.org, so I can set that up. All conferences will be held on Friday, 6/18, or Monday, 6/22.

3. Next week, I will be posting the summer reading books for students entering the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in September.

4. Please continue to read the school and teachers’ blogs during the summer months for updates and important information.

5. There will be regular classes Monday, 6/15- Thursday, 6/18.

11:30 am – 12:15 pm (8th ELA) 

12:15 pm - 1:00 pm (8th Social Studies- Mondays and Wednesdays)
