WEEK OF MAY 18, 2009 2ND GRADE
REMINDERS:
1. Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework.
2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes.
3. Please read with your child each night, not only books required for school, but books that are chosen by your child for enjoyment.
4. A new book was distributed for the children to read (boys will read The Story of Jumping Mouse and girls will be reading Johnny Appleseed). Please make sure that your child reads for thirty mins. each night and takes notes on important details. Notes will be started in the back of the Reading Notebook. Book Test will be on Thurs., May 28.
5. Please sign and return the tests given out by Mr. Woods on Wednesday. Please return them no later than Friday, 5/22.

LESSON: 1. Shared Literature- The children will listen to a story and be able to answer questions pertaining to that story.
2. Phonics- the vowel digraph /oo/ will be introduced

TUESDAY: MAY 19
AIM: To read and discuss a story
LESSON: 1. Shared Literature- the children will listen to and discuss a poem.
2. Phonics: Consonant Digraphs /n/gn, /n/kn, and /r/wr will be reviewed
3. Spelling words will be reviewed
4. The new vocabulary words will be introduced
HW: write each spelling word 5x each
WEDNESDAY: MAY 20
AIM: To discuss fact and fiction
LESSON: 1. Shared Literature- the children will listen to a story
2. Spelling and Vocabulary Words will be reviewed
3. The sequence skill of making inferences will be discussed
4. The difference between fact and fiction will be reviewed
HW: write a sentence for spelling words 1-8 in Reading NB (p.50)
THURSDAY: MAY 21
AIM: To decode words by breaking them into smaller segments
LESSON: 1. Spelling and vocabulary words will be reviewed.
2. Consonant digraphs gn, kn, and wr will be reviewed.
3. The children will see that breaking words up into syllables can help to decode longer and more difficult words.
HW: Write a sentence for the spelling words 9-15 in Reading Notebook and study for the Spelling Test (words on p.50)

AIM: To take a spelling test
HW: Start reviewing for final exam

AIM: To review nouns(singular, plural- regular and irregular, proper and common nouns, abbreviations, and pronouns
LESSON: The children will review all nouns pp. 94- 117 in Language Handbook
HW: study for test tomorrow and do p.126 1-12 in the Language Arts NB. Write each sentence out and follow the directions in the book.

AIM: To take a grammar test on nouns

LESSON: The children will write a paragraph on LL describing what they will do this summer. HW: see assignment book
THURSDAY, MAY 21
AIM: To review describing words (adjectives)
LESSON: The children will review the meaning of a describing word and complete p. 127 in the Lang. Handbook for review.
