Week of February 14,2011

Reminders:

As stated on last week's blog, these are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork. Your child will lose points if they do not follow the directions stated below.

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil will not be accepted unless it is specified. Sloppy and crossed out work will not be accepted.

B. **Any 7th or 8th grade students that attend Title 1 Math or Reading during Social Studies, must hand in all homework assignments and get notes from another classmate, so they do not fall behind in their notes.

C. Monday, 2/21 No school in honor of President’s Day.

D. Tomorrow-Monday, 2/14 Children may wear red to school for Valentine’s Day. Remember

the eighth grade will be having a cake sale in the lunchroom.

E. Please read the school blog about the change of school policy concerning electronic devices

Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

Vocabulary Words for the Week of Feb. 14: Test Friday, 2/18

3. consolidate- to join separate items into one whole; unite

4. generalize- to draw a general conclusion about something on the basis of limited or incomplete evidence

Homework: Write about a famous Black American. Your report should be divided into two parts: 1st Part-Background information (name, date, and place of birth, childhood, where he/she grew up, education, date of death-if the person has already died.

2nd Part- Why is the person you chose considered famous? You should discuss why you chose this particular person and what is it that made this person famous.

Your report should be 500 words and can be written or LL or typed. It can include pictures, but doesn’t have to. Font is Times New Roman (12) double-spaced. Please add a reference page to the back of your report (the sources you used for your information). Follow the same format as when you do a report for Science. This is due Tuesday, 2/22.

If you type it, it must be printed out before Tuesday, 2/22. No one will be allowed to print on Tuesday morning‼‼! It also cannot be copied from any article or book (I will check). Everything must be put into your own words. If you have any questions, ASK ME BEFORE THE DUE DATE‼!
