WEEK OF MAY 18, 2009 3RD GRADE

REMINDERS: 1. Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. 2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. 3. We are in great need of tissue for the classroom. Please send in a box. 4. Your child should read a few chapters in their books every night (James and the Giant Peach or A Taste of Blackberries) and more on the weekend. The notes for the book will be started in the back of the Reading Notebook. Please make sure that your child reads the book because many of the children are lowering their Reading grade because of not doing well on the book tests. The test for this book will be Thursday, May 21. 5. There will be a 12:00 dismissal on Friday, May 22. 6. There will be no school on Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day. 7. ITBS scores were distributed to your child today in school. Please sign the attached note and return tomorrow. You may keep the ITBS result sheet for your own reference. 8. Please sign and return the tests that Mr. Woods will distribute on Wednesday. Please return them signed no later than Friday 5/22. TESTS: LANGUAGE ARTS TEST – Tues. The class will complete a Listening Comprehension Activity - The Camel Dances 3. Prefixes and Suffixes will be reviewed and definitions will be written in the notebook. Some examples of prefixes (dis-, bi-, im-, in-) and suffixes (-er, -or, -less, -able, -ible) will be reviewed. HW: write spelling words 5x each in reading NB TUESDAY: MAY 19 AIM: To review the skill of sequencing (comprehension) LESSON: 1. The children will write new vocabulary in Reading Notebook. 2. The children will do a listening comprehension activity- The Hitting Machine of San Diego. 3. The children will read Centerfield Ballhawk and use a sequence chart to record the sequence of events as they read. HW: Write a sentence for spelling words 1-10 in Reading NB WEDNESDAY: MAY 20 AIM: To review compound words, suffixes, and prefixes LESSON: 1. Vocabulary words and spelling words will be reviewed. 2. Prefixes and suffixes will be reviewed. 3. Compound Words will be reviewed HW: Write a sentence for spelling words 11- 20 in the Reading NB and study for Spelling Test THURSDAY: MAY 21 AIM: To take a Spelling Test and Open Book Test HW: see assignment book FRIDAY: MAY 22 AIM: To draw conclusions based on information in a text and on experiences in real life. LESSON: 1. The children will answer The Question of the Day 2. The comprehension skill of drawing conclusions will be reviewed. Start reviewing for the Final Exam LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, MAY 18 AIM: To review abbreviations and pronouns LESSON: 1. The children will review abbreviations and pronouns for the test HW: study for test TUESDAY, MAY 19 AIM: To take a Grammar Test on nouns, pronouns, and abbreviations HW: see assignment book WEDNESDAY, MAY 20 AIM: To review action verbs LESSON: 1. The children the definitions for verb and action verb. 2. The children will complete p. 139 1-12 in Language Arts Handbook in LA NB for review. HW: p. 142 1-10 in Language Handbook. Do in Language Arts NB and write everything out. THURSDAY, MAY 21 N0 CLASS DUE TO COMPUTERS HW: p. 220 1-10 in Language Handbook. Write sentences out and circle each verb.
