WEEK OF MAY 4, 2009 2ND GRADE

REMINDERS: 1. Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. 2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. 3. Please read with your child each night, not only books required for school, but books that are chosen by your child for enjoyment. 4. A new book was distributed for the children to read( girls will read The Story of Jumping Mouse and boys will be reading Johnny Appleseed). Please make sure that your child reads for thirty mins. each night and takes notes on important details. Notes will be started in the back of the Reading Notebook. Book Test will be on Friday, May 15. 5. The children will need to write a paragraph (minimum of 6 sentences) titled "Mother's Day is A Special Day" . This should be done on looseleaf and the children should also make a cover for it. This will be due on Thurs.. 5/7. TESTS: Spelling Test on Friday, May 8 (words are on p. 47 in spelling book) Language Arts Test on Friday, May 8 (review pp. 94- 132 in Language Handbook) VOCABULARY: From Seed to Plant beautiful, nutrition, protects, ripens, streams HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS: air, different, food, light, water SPELLING: From Seed to Plant sprout, streams, through, strong, strap, springtime, spray, throat, three, ostrich, pioneers, clearing, air, different, light READING MONDAY, MAY 4 AIM: To complete a comprehension activity LESSON: The children will complete a comprehension activity in which they will have to find details within the context of a story. HW: complete p. 48 and 49 in Spelling Book TUESDAY: MAY 5 NYSESLAT READING TEST WEDNESDAY: MAY 6 NYSESLAT LISTENING TEST THURSDAY: MAY 7 AIM: To create a Sequence Chart for From Seed to Plant LESSON: 1. The children will create a Sequence Chart for the story From Seed to Plant. 2. We will review all new vocabulary and high frequency words. HW: review for Spelling Test FRIDAY, MAY 8 AIM: To take a Language Arts Test HW: continue to read your book LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, MAY 4 AIM: To review all nouns LESSON: The children will review all nouns pp. 94- 117 in Language Handbook HW: see assignment book TUESDAY, MAY 5 NYSESLAT WRITING TEST WEDNESDAY, MAY 6 Continue NYSESLAT testing THURSDAY, MAY 7 AIM: To review for Language Arts Test LESSON: The children will review nouns, abbreviations and pronouns for test tomorrow. HW: Study for test tomorrow FRIDAY, MAY 8 AIM: To take a Spelling Test HAVE A GOOD WEEK!!!!
