WEEK OF MAY 18, 2009 4TH GRADE

REMINDERS: 1.Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. 2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. 3. The children have been reading Harriet the Spy. Please make sure that your child reads for 30 mins. everyday and make notes. The notes were started in the back of the Reading NB. There will be a test on this book Thursday, 5/22. 4. Please sign and return the tests handed out by Mr. Woods on Wednesday. Please return them no later than Friday, 5/22. TESTS: Thursday, May 21 Book Test on Harriet the Spy VOCABULARY: THE STRANGER fascinated, timid, parlor, draft, etched, frost, terror, barren, sprout, crops, wilt READING MONDAY: May 18 AIM: To review main idea and details. LESSON: The children will read a short article and try to summarize it in two sentences or less. They will then find three details in the article that pertains to the main idea. The children will write the new vocabulary for The Stranger HW: see assignment book TUESDAY: May 19 AIM: To review adding endings –ed and -ing LESSON: The students will review adding the endings –ed and –ing to common verbs. The students will read the story of So You Want To Be President?and discuss details as the story is being read. HW: see assignment book WEDNESDAY: May 20 AIM: To discuss main idea and details LESSON: The students will read a short story about the White House. They will summarize the main idea in each of the four paragraphs. The children will complete pp. 93,95 in their Reading Practice Books. HW: see assignment book THURSDAY: May 21 AIM: To take a Book Test on Harriet the Spy HW: see assignment book FRIDAY: May 22 AIM: To build vocabulary by finding words related to the lesson concept; to listen for cause/effect relationships. LESSON: The children will listen to a story called Blame it on Hades. The class will then review the comprehension skill of cause/effect. HW: Start to review for Final Exam LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, May 18 AIM: To define and identify action and linking verbs LESSON: The children will review action and linking verbs. HW: Complete p. 41 (1-12) in the LA Notebook. Write the sentences out and follow the directions in the book. TUESDAY, May 19 AIM: To take a grammar test HW: Complete p. 47( Grammar Book) 1-10. Write the complete sentence and underline the answer. An example was written in the assignment book WEDNESDAY, May 20 AIM: To use action and linking verbs in writing LESSON: The children will complete p. 44 in the Grammar Book (1-15) in the LA NB. HW: do p. 48 in LA NB . Write everything out, 1-12. 1-5 write sentence and underline the verb phrase. 6-12 write the sentences and follow the directions in the book. THURSDAY, May 21 AIM: To define main verb, verb phrase, and helping verb LESSON: The students will take notes on each of the above words. They will complete p. 49 in the Grammar Book HW: do p. 51 in LA NB. Write sentences out with correct answer. . FRIDAY, May 22 No class due to 12:00 dismissal HW: Start reviewing for Final Exam HAVE A GOOD WEEK!
