WEEK OF APRIL 27, 2009 2ND GRADE
REMINDERS:
1.Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework.
2.Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes.
3.Please read with your child each night, not only books required for school, but books that are chosen by your child for enjoyment.
4.A new book will be distributed this week for the children to read( girls will read The Story of Jumping Mouse and boys will be reading Johnny Appleseed). Please make sure that your child reads for thirty mins. each night and takes notes on important details. Notes will be started in the back of the Reading Notebook.
5. The children will need to write a paragraph (minimum of 6 sentences) titles "Mother's Day is A Special Day" . This should be done on looseleaf and the children should also make a cover for it. This will be due on Weds. 5/6.

Language Arts Test on Friday, May 8 (review pp. 94- 132 in Language Handbook)

AIM: To write new vocabulary in the Reading Notebook
LESSON: The children will update their Reading vocabulary in the Reading NB.
HW: The children will write each spelling word 5x in the Reading NB
WEDNESDAY: APRIL 29 – NO class do to NYSESLAT Testing- Speaking section

AIM: To create a Story Map for Johnny Appleseed
LESSON:
1. The children will create a Story Map for the story Johnny Appleseed
2. We will review all new vocabulary and high frequency words.

HW: write sents. 1-5 on p. 117 (Lang. Handbook) correctly in Language Arts NB. Please skip a line between each sentence, write Homework, date and page number on the top the page in the notebook.
TUESDAY, APRIL 28
AIM: To review abbreviations and showing ownership
LESSON: The children will review pp. 118- 123 in Language Handbook concerning abbreviations and showing ownership.
HW: rewrite the letter on p. 123 in the Language Handbook correctly in the Language Arts NB. Please write Homework, the date, page number on the top of the page in the notebook. Also, skip a line between each sentence.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29 No class due to NYSESLAT Testing
THURSDAY, APRIL 30
AIM: To review pronouns
LESSON: The children will review pronouns and complete practice exercises in the Language Handbook (pp. 124-126).
HW: Do numbers 7 -12 on p. 126 in the Language Handbook. Please follow the directions for setting up the notebook from Monday and Tuesdays’ nights HW.
