Week of January 3, 2011

Happy New Year! I would like to thank the students and parents for all of the Christmas cards and gifts that I received. I appreciate all of your thoughts and well wishes.
Sincerely,
Donna Toscano Larios
Reminders:
As stated on last week's blog, these are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork. Your child will lose points if they do not follow the directions stated below.
A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil will not be accepted unless it is specified. Sloppy and crossed out work will not be accepted.
B. **Any 7th or 8th grade students that attend Title 1 Math or Reading during Social Studies, must hand in all homework assignments and get notes from another classmate, so they do not fall behind in their notes.
C. 7th and 8th Grade students will continue presenting their NHD projects this week.
D. All students in the 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grades should begin to review the vocabulary words in their reading notebooks for the Midterm Exams. Words will be checked off to study. They should also review skills that we have covered in class from their Word Study Book (5th grade), Practice Books (6th grades) or Skills Practice Books (7th & 8th grades). A midterm review for each class has been posted on the blog.
7th and 8th Grade students should start reviewing the notes in their Social Studies NBs for the Midterm Exams. These tests are cumulative from Sept.-Jan. A midterm review has been posted on the blog.
E. Remember to bring back to school all of the books that you took home to review before the Christmas break.
F. January calendars and new homework assignment books will be handed out today. Dismissal this Friday will be at 3:00.
Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

Homework:
Presentations for the NHD projects will continue this week. If your process paper is handed back, please make corrections and return by Monday 1/10. Make sure to include a list of the sources that you used for your research. Remember that you cannot be part of the School History Day Fair unless you have a least one primary source. If you are unsure about this, ask me or go to NHD.org and read up on the rules.
Some students did not hand in the DBQ that was started in class the week before Christmas Vacation. There should be three parts to this assignment- Short Answer, Documents, and Essay. In order not to receive a zero, this must be given to me by Friday, 1/7. This was due on Dec. 16, so points will be deducted for being late. If you are not sure if you turned it in, please ask me before Thursday.
Maps will no longer be accepted.
