Week of February 13, 2012

Reminders:

A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted) and pencil is not allowed.

B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable).

C. Starting this week, the students will be given 20 vocabulary words per week. They will have to copy the words and definitions on Monday for Homework and it will be checked on Tuesday by the Homeroom Teacher. If your child does not have internet access at home, he/she will be able to stay in the Afterschool Program on Mondays from 3:00-3:30 in order to copy the words into the Vocabulary NBs.

D. 5th grade will have Gym on Friday, instead of Monday until further notice.

E. Tuesday, 2/14 (Valentine’s Day) Dress in Red. No jeans or sneakers because we will be attending Mass. There will be a Cake Sale following Mass, sponsored by the 8th grade.

F. Thursday, 2/16 is Group Picture Day. All students need to be in full school uniform (no boots). The 5th grade will have gym, so bring your gym uniform in a bag. Greenhouse and Science Club students also must be dressed in full school uniform and can bring their gym uniforms in a bag.

G. Friday, 2/17- There will be a Title 1 Parent Workshop (Ms. Mason and Ms. Dukeman). If your child attends Title 1 Reading or Math, you should try your best to attend!

Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

Word Wall Test Friday, 2/17. Review the twenty words given this week that are written in the vocabulary notebook.

Remember to copy the words and definitions from the blog on Monday.

This assignment will be checked Tuesday during Homeroom.

Words for this week are:

order Rodentia, including the mice, squirrels, beavers, etc. 

Assignment: something assigned, as a particular task or duty

Dedicated: wholly committed to something, as to an ideal, political cause, 
or personal goal

Instructed: to furnish with knowledge, especially by a systematic method; 
teach; train; educate

Capsule: a small case, envelope, or covering

Cockpit: a space, usually enclosed, in the forward fuselage of an airplane 
containing the flying controls, instrument panel, and seats for the pilot and copilot or flight crew

Liftoff: the action of an aircraft in becoming airborne or of a rocket in 
rising from its launching site under its own power

Aerial: of, in, or produced by the air

Commander: a person who commands

Gravitational: the force of attraction between any two masses

Sensation: a feeling
