Week of March 18, 2013


Reminders:


 1. These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork:
       A. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

       B. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of
paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable.
   
      C. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a note
           from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW.
           This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home or you were sick.

      D. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted. 

           Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

2. Wednesday, 3/20 Report Card Distribution. There will be a 12:00 Dismissal due to Parent/Teacher Conferences from 2:00-7:00.

3. Please send a large shopping bag or 2 bags for your child to store any books that they will not be bringing home for the vacation.  Please make sure the bag is strong enough to hold a lot of books, because at Christmas many students were forced to carry home books because they could not fit them in the bag they brought to school. Please do not send in large garbage bags because they are too large and will not fit anywhere.

4. Friday, 3/22 the 5th grade will be having an Easter Party. They can bring in snacks to share with the class. More details will be added during the week.

5th Grade Reading- 3/18/13


Homework: Remember to work on your Unit 4 Reading Project. Due April 15.

The book being read for Unit 4 is If You Lived When There Was Slavery in America (If You ….Series) Anne Kamma and Pamela Johnson.
Read pages 18-33.

Over the Easter Vacation, please finish reading the book. Highlight important details and words that you do not understand.  You should also read something for enjoyment. Remember to also check out the link below for the state exams.

Write the vocabulary words for the week and their definitions in the Reading Vocabulary NB. Due Thursday, 3/21.

Response Questions for If  You Lived When.... . This assignment will be due on Thursday, 3/21 on looseleaf.

1. Were all slaves brought to America from Africa? Explain your answer.

2. Why did slavery start in America?

3. Explain where most American slaves lives. Give details.

4. Explain what their cabins were like.

6th Grade Reading- 3/18/13

Homework: Remember to work on your Unit 4 Reading Project. Due April 15.

The book being read for Unit 4 is Lyddie Katherine Patterson.
Read Chapters 4, 5, 6.
Over the Easter Vacation, please read at least 10 pages everyday. Highlight important details and words that you do not understand. You should be nearly finished the book when we return to school. Remember to also go over the sample questions for the state exam, especially the Reading Comprehension.

Write the vocabulary words for the week and their definitions in the Reading Vocabulary NB. Due Thursday, 3/21.
