Week of March 9, 2015

Reminders:

These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork:

A. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads is unacceptable).
   
B. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

C. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted.

D. Homework must be handed in on the day due, unless I receive a not from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW. This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW). 

F. Gym uniforms must be worn on Thursdays for gym.

G. Unit Exams start this Friday, 3/13 with Reading.
                                
Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

HOMEWORK: For the Week of March 9- Unit 4 Week 6

New Book for Unit 5 is Who Was Frederick Douglass? by April Jones Prince Penguin Young Readers Group Dec. 2014).


Grade 5 is reading Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis for Unit 4. Please make sure the book is completed by Thursday, 3/12.


Homework:

Please work on IXL (ELA) for at least 1 hour a week! This will be used for a grade instead of reading questions. I will be checking to see your progress in completing at least one hour of review from the following skills. Do not go to another skill until you have mastered the skills you have already started.  The skills you need to be working on for READING are multiple meaning words, homophones, synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, suffixes, frequently confused words, shades of meaning, similes and metaphors, greek and latin roots. When you master those skills, please see me so I can tell you what to work on next. 

TuesdayStudy all Vocabulary Words for Unit 4. The words are defined in the Reading Notebook. The words will be taken from the weeks of: 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/2.  There will also be questions asked from Bud, Not Buddy- Unit Exam is Friday, 3/13.


Black History Project: PowerPoint or Prezi. There should be a minimum of ten slides (that is including the Title Slide and Bibliography). The names of all members of your group should be listed on the first slide with the date and title of your presentation. Each slide can have no more than two sentences of text. There must be some type of graphic on each slide. You may use your notes to explain your slides, but you may not read from them-they are only used as a reference. Be prepared for your classmates to ask questions. Due Monday, 3/16 (no extensions).

Grade 6 is reading The Freedom Train: The Story of Harriet Tubman by Dorothy Sterling for Unit 4. Please complete the book by Thursday, 3/12.

7th Grade Social Studies

Chapter 4- American Revolution (1774-1783)

Homework:

The map of the Caribbean Islands is due on Monday, 3/9 (tomorrow)!

Monday-Study all vocabulary words and notes from Unit 4. (Chapters 3 and 4). You should read the text and study your class notebook. You do not need to study your vocabulary notebook, since the words have also been defined in the notes. Unit 4 Test is next week.


Tuesday- On page 141 in your text, complete the Vocabulary Review 1-4.  Write the question and correct answer. Also answer questions 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b Complete on looseleafDue Friday, 3/13.
