Week of October 3, 2016

Reminders:

These are a few reminders concerning homework and classwork: 

A. All school supplies should have been in today.

B. Please sign the permission slip in your child’s Reading Folder and return tomorrow signed.
       
C. All work must be completed in blue or black ink (other colors will not be accepted).  

D. If the assignment states that looseleaf is to be used, no other types of paper will be accepted (paper ripped out of notebooks or legal pads are unacceptable).
   
E. Homework must be handed in on the day due unless I receive a note from a parent explaining why you did not complete your HW. This will only be accepted if there is an emergency at home (not because you were too tired or that you had too much other HW). 

F. Homework and classwork must be neat. Work that is sloppy or illegible will not be accepted.

G. Gym uniforms must be worn by 5th graders on Wednesdays for gym.

H. Some children have still not brought in their school supplies. I sent a note home on Friday if your child was missing something.

I. Extended Day classes -The fifth grade will attend extended day class for Math on Tuesday with Mr. Placido and on Wednesday for ELA with Ms. Serewko. The classes will begin at 3:00 and finish at 5:00.

J. Individual Picture Day is tomorrow. If you would like your child to take a picture, please return the envelope with the money to Mrs. Resto in the tuition office.
K. There will be no school on Friday, October 7 due to a Faculty Conference Day and Monday, October 10 for Columbus Day.

L. Please check the blog daily for updated homework assignments or notifications.

Remember that homework and classwork count as a grade!

HOMEWORK: For the Week of October 3- Module 1 Week 4
Homework for Grade 5:

The fifth grade is reading Esperanza’s Rising for Module 1. Please read pages 100-157 by next Tuesday.


Write all new vocabulary on index cards. The word should be written on the front of the card in large print. Module 1 should also be written on the bottom right corner on the front of the card. The definition should be written on the back of the card. All cards must be kept in a Ziploc bag. Words will not be accepted if they are not in a bag! Index Cards will be collected every Monday.

Reading Vocabulary for the week will be listed in the Reading Vocabulary notebook.

Achieve 3000 is assigned each week to help improve the children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills. The children should complete any assignments (activities or thought questions) that are not completed during class. They can also get extra review by completing the stretch activities for the story that they have worked on in class.

Check your folder each night for papers to complete at home.

Monday- Define the words below in your Social Studies Vocabulary Notebook. Please skip a line between each definition. Remember to write the date, Module 1, Week 1, and Aim. Write in blue or black ink only. Due Wednesday, 10/5.

Tuesday-Read pages 42-45 in the textbook. Answer questions 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b on page 45 on looseleaf (full heading). Due Thursday, October 6.

Outline for Project:
Slide 1: Introduction- Person's name and picture, your name, date, and grade
Slide 2: Infancy (where and when he/she was born), childhood, and teenage years  (can be more than 1 slide)
Slide 3: Adulthood/Career (can be more than 1 slide)
Slide 4: Why is this person an important part of Hispanic Heritage?
Slide 5: Bibliography  (video is optional)

There should be no more than two sentences of text on a slide. Your information should be on index cards. Study your presentation, so you are not reading from the cards- the cards should be used as notes, so you don't forget anything.

Social Studies Test on Chapter 1 (study notes and the questions that I gave you in class on Monday) Thursday, October 6.
