WEEK OF SEPT. 21, 2009 GRADE 4 READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books.
2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day.
3. Your child needs to remember to bring all of their school supplies every day.
4. The children were given a book to read called the War with Grandpa. The tests will be similar to last year's tests and it is important for them to take notes as they read. Notes will be written in the back of the Reading NB and will be started in class. The children will be able to use their notes on the test but not the book. A date for the test will be decided later.

TESTS: 
1. There will be a Vocabulary Test every Friday on 15 words created by all three teachers. Each teacher will give 5 words a week, which will be written in the Vocabulary NB. The children should study these words each night. On Friday there will be a test.


VOCABULARY:
1. 5 words for the week (will be tested on Friday): chapel, capable, tidy, vanished, mansion. Check the Vocabulary NB for these words.

2. Reading Vocabulary Words from Because of Winn Dixie:
grand, memorial, peculiar, positive, prideful, recalls, selecting, consisted, friendless, attention, kindness, understanding, den, keen, prey.
Check the Reading NB for these words.


SPELLING:
No new spelling words this week.

Challenge Words: none

 HOMEWORK:
Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.
MONDAY: complete page 4 in Practice Book. Do in Reading NB
TUESDAY: complete pages 2,3 in Word Study Book. Do in Reading NB- answers only.
WEDNESDAY: none
THURSDAY: Study 15 vocabulary words in the Vocabulary NB for test and complete pages 1 and 2 in Grammar Book. Please do in the Lang. Arts NB (answers only).
FRIDAY: Read for at least 30 minutes over the weekend. You can read any book or magazine that you like or The War with Grandpa. JUST READ!
