WEEK OF SEPT.28,2009 4TH GRADE LESSON PLANS FOR READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

REMINDERS:
1. Please remember to cover all soft-covered books.
2. Remember to read the purple assignment book and check the HW folder each night to know your child's homework for each day.
3. Your child needs to remember to bring all of their school supplies every day.
4. The children were given a book to read called the War with Grandpa. The tests will be similar to last year's tests and it is important for them to take notes as they read. Notes will be written in the back of the Reading NB and will be started in class. The children will be able to use their notes on the test but not the book. The book test will be on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.

TESTS: 
1. Vocabulary Test on words in the Vocabulary NB Friday, 10/2.
2. Spelling Test on this week’s words, Friday, 10/2.


VOCABULARY:
1. 5 words for the week (will be tested on Friday). Check the Vocabulary NB for these words.
          platform- a raised floor
          warn- to alert
          banister- the railing of a staircase
          patch- to mend or repair
          seek- to look for

2. Reading Vocabulary Words from Lewis and Clark and Me:
pioneer, settlers, territories, traveled, docks, migrating, scan, scent, wharf, yearned, consult, leisurely, mutual, interpreted, scout   Check the Reading NB for these words.


SPELLING:
sigh, right, weigh, eight, detail, height, spray, braid, bait, grain, slight, thigh, tight, raisin, trait, highway, frighten, dismay, freight, sleigh

Challenge Words
eighteen, mayonnaise, campaign, daylight, twilight

 HOMEWORK:
Check the Purple Assignment Book every night for exact pages.
MONDAY: write each spelling word 5x each in the Reading NB.

TUESDAY: write a sentence for spelling words 1-13 in the Reading NB.

WEDNESDAY: write a sentence for spelling words 14-25 in the Reading NB

THURSDAY: Study 15 vocabulary words in the Vocabulary NB and spelling words for tests tomorrow.

FRIDAY: Read for at least 30 minutes over the weekend. You can read any book or magazine that you like or The War with Grandpa. JUST READ!
