READING MONDAY, 2/9/09 AIM: to build vocabulary by finding words related to the lesson concept LESSON: The children will review concept vocabulary. They will then do a listening comprehension activity. HW: write new spelling words 5x each in Reading NB TUES., 2/10/09 NO CLASS DUE TO GYM CLASS WEDS., 2/11/09 AIM: to draw conclusions from facts and details and also from using prior knowledge LESSON: The children will read different facts from stories and try to draw conclusions based on the facts and their prior knowledge of the subject. HW: Write a sentence for spelling words 1-13 in the Reading NB. Underline each spelling word. THURS. 2/12/09 AIM: to read and discuss Coyote School News LESSON: The class will read the selection together and stop at different points in the story for comprehension checks and also to try to draw conclusions. We will also discuss the genre Historical Fiction. HW: Write a sentence for spelling words 14-25 in the Reading Notebook. Underline each spelling word. Study for Spelling Test tomorrow. FRIDAY, 2/13/09 AIM: to take a Spelling Test and continue reading Coyote School News LESSON:The children will take a Spelling Test and then finish reading and discussing the story. LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, 2/9/09 AIM: to discuss narrative writing LESSON: The children will write the meaning of narrative writing in their LA NB. We will then look back in Coyote School news to try and find parts where the narrator is describing something. HW: see purple notebook TUES., 2/10/09 AIM: to review plural possessive nouns LESSON: The children will practice identifying plural possessive nouns HW: see purple HW book WEDS., 2/11/09 AIM: to write an essay for Valentine's Day LESSON: The children will write something about Valentine's Day. It can be based on facts or written about feelings. HW: Write corrected essay on looseleaf THURS., 2/12/09 AIM: to identify the qualities of a news story LESSON: The children will write a news story focusing on an event and giving all the necessary information.
