WEEK OF FEBRUARY 16- 20, 2009 4TH GRADE

REMINDERS: 1. Please return all tests distributed by Mr. Woods last week 2. Be prepared for class everyday by bringing the necessary supplies and assignments TESTS: 1.Spelling Test tomorrow Tues. 2/17 (postponed Friday) 2.Language Arts Test Friday 2/20 on Nouns. Study notebook and pp. 21-40 in Grammar Book. 3.Book Test on The Borrowers Friday 2/27. Notes and book may be used for the test. Computer notes may not be used. VOCABULARY: No new words this week SPELLING: No new words this week READING TUES. 2/17 NO CLASS DUE TO GYM CLASS HW: see purple assignment book WEDS. 2/18 AIM: to discuss creating a class newspaper LESSON: 1. The children will look at the sample news paper article from Coyote School News p.185 2. They will then form groups and choose a part of the newspaper that way would like to work on. They will have time during each class to plan. 3. The students will then draw a graphic organizer using the subject O.L.Q.M and will think of three things that they have experienced good or bad while going to school here. 3. Finally, the students will write a topic sentence and some important details HW: Finish writing the draft of OLQM in the Reading NB. It should be at least 3 paragraphs. THURS. 2/19 AIM:to examine features of a how-to article. LESSON:1. The students will look at the how-to article on pp. 186-187 in text book. 2. This is the format they will follow when developing the newspaper. 3. They will then get into their groups and brainstorm ideas for their articles. 4. The draft that was written last night about OLQM and ME will be corrected and the children can rewrite on looseleaf, HW: finish rewriting the the essay on OLQM and ME(reading notebook) . The students that did not complete their draft on Weds. night must do it tonight and then rewrite the final copy over the weekend. Please check your child's purple assignment book to see whether or not he/she completed the HW. This assignment counted as a homework grade and a writing grade and a zero in two assignments will bring down your child's grade significantly. FRIDAY 2/20 AIM: Language Arts Test on Nouns HW: Continue to read the Borrowers and make notes . If you did not rewrite your draft on Thursday, write it over the weekend and hand it in on Monday. Nothing will be accepted after Monday, 2/23. LANGUAGE ARTS TUES. 2/17 AIM: to continue to read and discuss Coyote School News LESSON: 1. The students will continue to read the selection. 2. The story will then be discussed, concentrating on author's purpose and drawing conclusions. 3. Spelling Test HW: Spelling Book p. 25 1-25 on looseleaf WEDS. 2/18 AIM: to review singular and plural possessive nouns LESSON: 1. The students will review the meaning of possessive nouns, singular possessive nouns, and plural possessive nouns. 2. They will work on exercises in the grammar book dealing with this concept. HW: see purple assignment book THURS. 2/19 AIM: to review all nouns for test tomorrow LESSON: 1. The children will review singular nouns. 2. They will then review regular and irregular plural nouns 3. Finally we will review singular and plural possessive nouns HW: pp. 35,39 in Grammar Book (ans. only) . Write ans. on looseleaf. Study for test tomorrow pgs. 21-40 FRIDAY 2/20 NO CLASS DUE TO 2:30 DISMISSAL HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
