REMINDERS:
1. Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework.
2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes.
3. A new book was handed out on Thursday, 3/5 for the children to read. Please read with your child each night, not only books required for school, but books that are chosen by your child for enjoyment. There will be a open book test for this book on Tues. 3/17. Girls are reading Strega Nona and boys are reading The Legend of the Blue Bonnet.

Book Test on Anansi the Spider or Stone Soup Tuesday, 3/3
Vocabulary Tuesday, 3/10 on the words from The Enormous Turnip, Helping Out, Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane, Hedgehog Bakes a Cake, and Lemonade for Sale. The words are defined in the children’s Reading Notebook

LESSON: 1.The children will take an open book test on Anansi the Spider (boys) and Stone Soup (girls)

WEDNESDAY: MARCH 4
AIM: To decode regular multisyllable words
LESSON: 1. The children will do a listening comprehension activity.
2. The children will review the sound of /ar/, /arm/, and /ark/ when reading and spelling.
3. The children will write the new vocabulary in their notebooks.
HW: Phonics p. 133, 134
THURSDAY: MARCH 5
AIM: To understand what synonyms are; to understand how using one synonym in place of another can change the meaning of a sentence.
LESSON: 1. Review the vocabulary
2. Review the meaning of synonyms and try to replace easier synonyms with more difficult ones- such as pretty can be replaced with attractive,
3. We will discuss background of the story and making inferences about information we can get from a story without the author directly stating it.
4. The class will read the story together.
HW: Phonics pp. 135, 136
FRIDAY: MARCH 6
AIM: To be able to sequence events in the proper order (comprehension)
LESSON: 1. We will try to put the events of The Little Red Hen in proper order
2. Spelling Words will be reviewed for test tomorrow
3. Vocabulary Words will be reviewed and discussed.
4. The children will review syllabication rules when decoding words
HW: Review for Vocabulary Test and read for at least 30 minutes each day.

AIM: to write the names of days, months and holidays
LESSON: 1. The children will write the names of the days and months correctly (pp. 109- 113).

LESSON: The children will write the names of holidays correctly in Language Arts Handbook (pp. 115-117)

LESSON: The children will review the meaning of an abbreviation and complete practice exercises on pp. 118- 120 in the Language Handbook
