WEEK OF MARCH 9, 2009 2ND GRADE

REMINDERS: Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes. A new book was handed out last week for the children to read. Please read with your child each night, not only books required for school, but books that are chosen by your child for enjoyment. TESTS: Spelling Test Thurs., 3/12 Words are on p.39 in the Spelling Book. Book Test on Strega Nona and The Legend of Bluebonnet Tues. 3/17 Vocabulary Test- Weds., 3/11 on the words from The Enormous Turnip, Helping Out, Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane, Hedgehog Bakes a Cake, and Lemonade for Sale. The words are defined in the children’s Reading Notebook VOCABULARY: Lemonade for Sale announced, arrived, glum, members, rebuild HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS: between, enough, fill, idea, number SPELLING: bar, jar, star, farm, harm, charm, dark, remark, sparkle, alarm, fourteen, source, between, enough, idea READING: MONDAY: MARCH 9 AIM: To review vocabulary words for test . LESSON: 1.The children will review all vocabulary words on the word wall. 2. We will review the spelling words on p. 39 3. Read Lemonade for Sale 4. Review the phonics HW. from last week 133- 136 (sound of /ar/) HW: Write spelling words 5x each and study for vocabulary test TUESDAY: MARCH 10 NO CLASS DUE TO TITLE II MEETING. HW: Study for Vocabulary Test WEDNESDAY: MARCH 11 AIM: To work on comparing and contrasting and take a vocabulary test LESSON: 1. To complete a vocabulary test 2. Review spelling words on p. 39 3. Do a listening comprehension activity 4. The class will review how to compare and contrast HW: Spelling – Write a sentence for Spelling Words 1-15 (words on p. 39 in Spelling Book) in Reading Notebook. Study for spelling test. THURSDAY: MARCH 5 AIM: To take a spelling test on words with the sound of /ar/ LESSON: 1. Complete a spelling test 2. Complete a reading comprehension activity. HW: Continue to read book for test next week. FRIDAY, MARCH 6 No School LANGUAGE ARTS MONDAY, MARCH 9 No class due to practice for the Spring Show TUESDAY, MARCH 10 No class due to practice for the Spring Show. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 AIM: To review abbreviations LESSON: The children will review the meaning of an abbreviation and complete practice exercises in the Language Handbook HW: check purple assignment book THURSDAY, MARCH 5 AIM: To write a paragraph on what Lent means to you and what you will sacrifice for Jesus during Lent. LESSON: The children will write a paragraph on Lent and Sacrifice. Then draw a picture. Do this in Language Arts NB. HAVE A GOOD WEEK!!!!
