WEEK OF MARCH 9, 2009 3RD GRADE
REMINDERS:
1.Remember to bring all school supplies everyday, including the homework
2. Please check your child’s purple assignment book every night for HW and notes.
3. Our class will be doing a spring show. The date is Mon., 3/30 at 5:00 PM. There is a letter concerning costumes in the folder. Please read, sign, and return tomorrow.
4. Please bring in a box of Kleenex if you haven’t already done so .
5. The children received their new books last Friday. There will be a book test in 3 weeks. They should read 30 minutes each day (7 days a week) in order to finish the book on time. Some children only start a week before the book is due and it is difficult to complete because of all the other HW. Notes on the book should be kept in the Reading Notebook. Notes will be started in class tomorrow in the back of the notebook.
TESTS:
Vocabulary Test Weds. 3/11 on the words from Turtle Bay/Balto, the Dog Who Saved Nome/Wild Shots, They’re My Life/ Little Grunt and the Big Egg/ and Rosie, a Visiting Dog’s Story. All words are defined in the Reading Notebook.
Spelling Test will be next week on the words below

AIM: To review vocabulary for test Weds.
LESSON: 1. The class will do a listening comprehension activity
2. Vocabulary words will be reviewed for the last 4 stories.
3. Open and closed syllables will be reviewed.
HW: Study for vocabulary test, complete pages in the Phonics Book that were assigned as class work.
TUESDAY: MARCH 10
AIM: To work on comprehension activities in the Reading Practice Book.
LESSON: 1.The children will practice comprehension skills in the Practice Book.
2. The class will answer and discuss the Question of the Day
3. We will read Rosie, a Visiting Dog’s Story
HW: Study for the vocabulary test and do How-to Project.
WEDNESDAY: March 11
AIM: To present how-to projects
LESSON: 1. The children will present their projects to the class.
2 .The children will review the new spelling words.
HW: See purple assignment book.
THURSDAY: MARCH 12
AIM: To analyze the context of a story to verify the meaning of a word in a story.
LESSON: 1. The children will answer the Question of the Day
2. The children will complete a listening activity.
3. Vocabulary Words will be reviewed and discussed.
4. We will review open and closed compound words- eg. raincoat (closed)
and sugar-free (open).
HW: Continue to read books.
FRIDAY: MARCH 13 NO SCHOOL
LANGUAGE ARTS
MONDAY, MARCH 9
AIM: To write about our personal Lenten sacrifices.
LESSON: The children will write about what Lent means to them and secondly, what they are giving up as a sacrifice.
HW: see purple assignment book. How-to chart is due tomorrow.
TUESDAY, MARCH 10
AIM: To work on Title IID project in the computer room.
LESSON: The children will will work on their world projects.
HW: see purple assignment book
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11
AIM: To continue presenting how-to charts
LESSON: The children will continue to read their charts to the class.

No LA class due to computer class
